Lake Placid Adds Downhill to 2025 World Cup Schedule
If you missed out experiencing the inaugural Whoop UCI Mountain Bike World Series hosted September 27-29 at Mt Van Hoevenberg, you're going to get a mulligan in 2025 when Lake Placid adds downhill to the already awesome program.
Throughout the weekend, rumors were flying as fast as the dirt off Olympic tires at Mt Van Hoevenberg that not only was the event already coming back for 2025, but that downhill was being added to the schedule.
Those rumors were confirmed on October 2nd as New York State Olympic Regional Development Authority (Olympic Authority) announced that WBD Sports and the Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI) had released the 2025 WHOOP UCI Mountain Bike World Series calendar with Lake Placid to host both Downhill and Cross-country races.
Scheduled for October 3-5, 2025, the three-day event will feature Cross-country Short Track (XCC), Cross-country Olympic (XCO), and Downhill (DHI).
We suggest blocking your calendar now and even thinking seriously about booking lodging. Reason being, if the 2025 event is event a half percent better than it was this year, we will never let you live it down that you missed seeing this incredible event two years in a row.
Seriously, organizers absolutely crushed the guest experience. Not only could spectators get up close to the action, but they could do it at dozens and dozens of vantage points along the race course without missing either the start or finish of the race.
Aside from competition, the venue vibe was electric for those who love bikes and for those maybe experiencing a bicycling event of this level for the first time. Spectators could chat with athletes, mechanics and other support staff as they gawked at pro bikes while walking through the team areas.
Vendor village was also stuffed full with good things to eat, buy and learn about. And, just when you least expected it, a band would roll through or you'd walk past students from Paul Smith's College demonstrating axe throwing, a magician would pull something out of a helmet... you get the picture. It was a lot of fun.
Add on the Community Bike Jam hosted by Barkeater Trails Alliance, which featured a BMX stunt show in downtown Lake Placid on Friday and it was one heck of a fun, two-wheel fueled, weekend. Needless to say, BikeADK is all-in to send it and help make 2025 even better.
Last thing... DOWNHILL!!!
