CLUB SPOTLIGHT: Saratoga Shredders
BikeADK had the joy of attending the first ever Saratoga Shred Fest in August. The takeaway was simple, the Saratoga Shredders have something really, really special going on. And it's a lot of fun.
Starting a kids focused bike club in 2020 during a global pandemic seems a bit crazy, right?
Turns out, it was a good idea that has already grown into way more than than the Saratoga Shredders' original goal of getting more young girls on bikes. In fact, in just three years, the club has kids programs for all, has spearheaded multiple bikes-in-schools programs, hosts regular camps and clinics, group rides and now a festival.
Oh, and they're leading an effort to build a bike park in the heart of Saratoga Springs. So there's that, too.
THE MISSION
"We’re a passionate group on a mission to get more KIDS on bikes! We aim to remove the barriers often associated with the sport of mountain biking. We started out offering weekly “girls only” rides and have grown to offer programming for girls AND boys ages K-12! From rides to races, clinics to camps, we an all-inclusive group serving the Saratoga Springs, NY area and surrounding communities."
