BikeADK Adds Rail Trail Shuttle Service
The Adirondack Rail Trail isn't set to be fully completed until later this year, but bikes have already brought business and thanks to Franklin County, numerous businesses will be better positioned to support the boom.
In March, the Franklin County Economic Development Corporation (FCEDC), in partnership with the Towns of Harrietstown and Tupper Lake, announced the grant recipients of the Rail Trail Small Business Fund. This initiative, totalling $200,000, is designed to support and strengthen small businesses along the Adirondack Rail Trail in Harrietstown and Tupper Lake.
The fund, part of the Adirondack Frontier Small Business Program, provides technical assistance, financing, and direct funding to small businesses across Franklin County including Bike Adirondacks, who was awarded $35,000 to help create a new shuttle service for the Adirondack Rail Trail.

Award Recipients:
Town of Harrietstown
- Silver Birch Cycles – $35,000: Launching a mobile bike repair service and bike rentals.
- Bike ADK – $35,000: Establishing a shuttle service to connect key Rail Trail locations.
- Charlie’s Inn – $31,500: Adding a grab-and-go food service for Rail Trail users.
- Early Dawn Confections – $6,000: Expanding bakery operations.
- The Belvedere – $23,500: Upgrading the kitchen for expanded food service.
- Rock Ledge Cabins – $27,700: Enhancing cabin rental offerings for Rail Trail visitors.
Town of Tupper Lake
- Timberjaxx Pass – $35,000: Establishing a food service operation at the mini-golf course near Junction Pass and Crossroads Trail.
- Depot Café – $31,500: Opening a new café in the Junction, adjacent to the Rail Trail.

Economic Impact
This funding round supports five existing businesses, three start-up businesses and is projected to create 12 new jobs in Harrietstown and Tupper Lake.
There is $93,500 in remaining funding available for small businesses in Tupper Lake. The second round of funding is now open, with eligibility forms due by April 4th, 2025, at 5:00 PM.
