New Sept. 17 Handlebarley Route
Ya win some, ya lose some. And in the case of the Sunday, Sept. 17 Handlebarley ride, both happened.
Recent storms completely washed out an integral section of Johnson Pond Road (see photo gallery at the bottom of the blog), making it impassable and therefore unrideable for the event. That said, we're working with the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation on an amazing new route into the remote and stunning Boreas Ponds. We did some recon of this route earlier this spring and, wow, is it good. It's not as challenging as the original Handlebarley route, but adds some absolutely breathtaking views.
Registration for the Sept. 17 ride is still open, and yes, you should sign up. We'll roll from Paradox Brewery for a total 31.2 mile fully supported out-and-back to spectacular Boreas Ponds followed by live music, tasty craft brews and delicious pizza at the brewery.
For those doing the full weekend package or the Saturday, Sept. 16 only ride to Elk Lake Lodge, both of which are sold out, that route will move ahead as planned.
And despite not being to ride to the Penfield Homestead Museum in historic Ironville, the event will still benefit the museum, which you can certainly visit during the weekend.
