Ride Spot: Tupper Lake Country Club
If you’re looking for someplace new to get out on your fat bike, the James C. Frenette Sr. Recreation Trails at the Tupper Lake Country Club offer a great destination with just under 7 total miles of trails open to visitors 24/7. While only one of those is a dedicated bike trail at this multi-use course, the other trails are all open to fat bikers as long as you stay out of the purpose groomed ski tracks. All trails are signed with color coded hemlock cone markers.
The country club offers abundant parking and it’s easy to find. Just head south out of Tupper Lake on Route 30 and look for Country Club/Ski Tow Road on your left just past the Pine Terrace Motel. The entrance to the trails and the register box is past the pro shop as you enter the woods. While you’re there you can also enjoy the groomed sledding hill at the course.
Though course facilities aren’t open in the winter, there’s a fire pit located by Cranberry Pond on the course where the groomers often start a fire on winter days. When you’re done with your riding, head on over to Raquette River Brewing on Balsam Street in town where you can get a cold craft brew to go with one of their wood-fired pizzas. See you on the trails!
