Stand Up for Safe Streets
The New York Bicycling Coalition (NYBC) invites you to join advocates from all over New York State to take action at the 2026 NYS Safe Streets Days of Action in Albany on Tuesday, January 27, 2026 and Wednesday, May 13, 2026. This is a chance to speak directly with state legislators about why safe streets matter from village centers and rural highways to routes that support tourism, recreation, and everyday transportation across New York.
These advocacy days get results. Past Safe Streets Days of Action helped win local control of speed limits down to 25 mph in 2022 and the passage of Sammy’s Law in the 2024 NYS Budget, which allows New York City to lower neighborhood speed limits to 20 mph.
NYBC co-chairs the New York State Safe Streets Coalition and works statewide to push for proven solutions like safer street design, slower speeds, and policies that protect cyclists and pedestrians, especially in communities where people walk and ride on shared roads.
You don’t need advocacy experience to make a difference, you just need to show up. NYBC provides training, talking points, and will pair first-time participants with experienced advocates. Help is available for getting to Albany, including a bus from NYC and coordination from other parts of the state when possible. Sign up using the link below to join fellow safety advocates and make your voice heard for safer streets for everyone.
